Learning-Centered Campus

If we ask you all what does learning mean to you what would your answer incline towards?

-          Grasping the knowledge taught by academics

-          Understanding every aspect being taught

The traditional approach for the foundation years for the students was completely based on the first point. Education was all about taking in the knowledge, producing it on paper and projects, and grades on the report card. Students go on to get their graduation but for them, knowledge was a path to go ahead in life with grades. The knowledge was not properly put to use.

The learning-Centered approach is here to change your perception. The main focus is on "learning first". This initiative was first taken up in the 1990s. Here the students can learn from their experience. It is more practical-based if we explain it in simpler terms. The students get to learn what they want making them active learners. The students need to be responsible for their own learning at their own pace. The skills they learn will be used life-long.

The faculty members aid in being the mentor that engages students to learn more. They use resources like experiments, learning activities, projects, assignments, references etc. This also allows the teachers to obtain examples beyond the book, which in turn increases their knowledge base. A properly devised curriculum needs to be implemented that focuses on learning and students.

 Learning-based approach boosts:

-          Discussion

-          Community involvement

-          Sharing experiences

-          Collaborative Projects

-          Student-focused engagement

Principles of Learning-Centered Approach

-          Context

The knowledge should have a context with the practical word. This allows the student to learn and grasp knowledge as per their abilities.

-          Collaboration

Collaboration allows students to develop, test, and analyze their ideas. Students are exposed to each other’s opinions and learn from each other’s experiences.

-          Construction

The approach allows students to build their own experiences. They can use the knowledge without prior knowledge.

-          Conversation

Conversation leads to constructive conclusions. Communication between students will also foster friendships and social relationships.

Advantages of Learning-Centered Campus

2.    Motivates students to learn every day.

3.    The focus is on learning instead of grades.

4.    It pushes students to communicate and be confident.

5.    New skills are introduced to the students.
